My mom sent me an email recently followed by a link to the Catholic Virginian with an article about my baby brother Jeremy and his recent stardom in a nativity play at The Church of the Holy Family in Virginia Beach, VA. It's ok you can say he's awesome, because he is go Big J!

Tuesday Tunes.

...with Andrew Bird.

I've posted this before, but can not seem to escape it's loveliness. I'm starting a new segment of "Tuesday Tunes" posts, of recent music I've discovered or music like this, that I just love. Sometimes, I can't help but enjoy lyrics sometimes more than music. Maybe it's the writer in me?

While I'm stirring these condiments into my tea
And I think I'm so lame, I bet I'll think this song is about me
Don't I, don't I, don't I?
Oh, I'm in a lull...

Wise sayings...

 Lucy.

Meko.

Today's blog entry was inspired by one of my favorite authors Neil Gaiman. For those of you who aren't familiar with Neil's blog, lately he's been posting adorable snow pictures of his dogs Cabal and Lola. It was easy today to take similar pictures of our family dogs Meko and Lucy, because of the blizzard that hit the Hampton Roads area.

It's hard to believe that during our last major snow storm Lucy (aka Tokyo) was just a puppy, and now look at her!. She and Meko played outside all day long and rarely wished to return to the warmth and comfort of the house. Huskies are amazing to behold in the snow simply because of their animal instincts and their beautiful coat.

So though I occasionally complain about the snow and how much of a pain in the ass it is, it is a rare treat especially on Christmas night, to behold the beauty of your four legged love ones in their natural habitat.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Christmas night, though cheesy as it may sound, our family enjoyed a wonderful meal at a local Chinese restaurant in Virginia Beach. I think my favorite part of the evening was when we all read our out loud our fortunes from our fortune cookies.

"Wise sayings often fall on barren ground, but a kind word is never thrown away."
What a beautiful saying. That being said, I love my family.

Gracias a la vida.

Tamales.

Alfie made tamales yesterday in celebration of the Christmas holiday. There is rarely an opportunity to eat traditional Mexican tamales around here that, when the occasion arises for an opportunity to make them, everyone is more than willing to help consume them.

Being a follower of my blog, Alfie (my mother) was encouraging me to take many shots of the assembly of tamales and arrangements that they made, as they lay prettily in their cooking pots. Funny enough I thought the pictures resembled flower bouquets rather than food.

The deliciousness of the tamales and the ambiance of my family made the trip worth the taking! Happy Christmas to everyone and I hope that the New Year brings you happiness and love.

Gracias a la vida.

life long search...

Being a girl who was born and raised in south Texas, you come to appreciate the fine art of Mexican cuisine or one might even say Tex-Mex food. Unfortunately, since my mother Alfie, moved us here to Virginia, we just haven't quite found that great Mexican restaurant yet. I know, still? Though we've resided here for almost half my life, you would think there would have been some cuisine in the area, with some sort of likeness to the Mexican food that I had growing up... but no.

Anyone who either resided in Texas for a while as an adult or lived there at some point throughout their childhood would have to agree with me when I say that, the food is phenomenal. So here I am, 27 and still in search for a great Mexican restaurant, with the all the authenticity of my grandmother hands and reasonable price to follow.

Sunday was no exception, Venessa and I went to eat at a Mexican restaurant named Plaza Azteca, and though the food was beautifully served and the ambiance was terrific, the fajitas we ate were sub-par. Nevertheless, we consumed our food gladly and quietly complained that there would never be a restaurant quite like the ones we were used to in Texas.

Perhaps, it will be my lifelong search, to roam the lonely streets of Richmond, never to find a happy ending of homemade flour torillas, just mere mediocre food replicas of my childhood memories.

(Off-subject maybe...?
Don't you just love World Market? I posted some pictures of the store, I love it there. I'm just about done buying every body's holiday present. I spent all day at World Market .)

Blow out the candles...

Though, I am excited that this weekend is finally finished, I had such a great time enjoying the farm birthday party at Maymont, of Ava Grace! I took a lot of pictures but these were a couple that absolutely showed just how fun and farm themed everything was.

Ava Grace seemed to have enjoyed herself. Happy Birthday Ava Grace from your friend Ms. Jenny.

... and make a wish.

These are photos from December 18, 2010, Ava Grace's birthday, I decided to post the beautiful pictures of the farm animals that I shot at Maymont. It was freezing outside but the children didn't seem to mind. Oh to be so young again, and fearless?

Richmond I love you, thank you for Maymont, one of my favorite places in the entire world.

something to make you laugh.

From what I've been told, by close friends and relatives, I've become more solemn. I've been trying very hard these past months to involve myself with other people and surround myself with friends to help the time seem less lonely.

Alas, I always knew it was just a matter of time before I would let the depression sink back into my heart. I've been asking myself when the pain will go away? When will it not hurt anymore? But it seems that whatever I do, however much I try, the lump still weighs heavy on my throat.

The blog helps, I suppose. Of course, we all know that blogs are merely online diary entries. But so help me I hate sounding like a heart broken, fucking, stupid, idiot on mine! This can't be normal, at least not for me?

生命〔生活〕にあなたに感謝してください。

Readers, if you know me well or even at all, I'm sure you can tell based on my profile pictures or photo postings that my race can be somewhat ambiguous to guess. It is a common known fact that I am indeed of Hispanic origin. But most of the time I'm commonly mistaken for someone of Asian origin.

Most say that I appear to be half Caucasian and Asian. (mainly, Korean or Japanese, sometimes Inuit?) No matter really, I've come to the conclusion that I should just be called a Mexichin. As I write, I can't help but laugh.

Today, I was reading and looking at all the beautiful photos on Jeana Sohn's blog and could not take my eyes off her new "closet visit" post to her friend Momo Suzuki- a Japanese born clothing designer. I was simply in a state of shock and envy. She was absolutely breath taking. All of a sudden it made me happy to be mistaken with such a beautiful people. (although I would hardly say that I look just as beautiful in comparison.)

Enjoy the pictures courtesy of Jeana Sohn's blog.

rainy days... and sundays.

It's raining outside, what a perfect day to sew with Mimosa, she tuckered out so quickly, that I would hardly call it hanging out. Minutes later, Trey and Venessa bought me lunch. I love Coppolas. Rainy days and Sundays aren't getting me down today...

jose gonzalez JUNIP

I love Jose Gonzalez but now absolutely love the band he's in Junip.

sick days...

This week I had the pleasure of spending time with my dear friend Ava Grace. Sunday, we made Christmas cookies, and after finding out that she was sick on Wednesday morning her mom asked that I pick her up and spend time with her until she could leave work. I love her! She is an absolute treat to be with, and though her tummy hurt she was such a trooper. These pictures were taken of her on Sunday, her pajamas were so cute. None, of the pictures show her face, but believe me when I say she is a beautiful little girl. I know spending time with friends makes me feel better, even when my tummy hurts.

snow.

(photo courtesy of Kate on the For Me for You blog)
It snowed, and outside it doesn't feel magical anymore. When we were wrapped up in a blanket laying on the couch, I'll admit that I thought I had known the secret of happiness, that nobody else but me, would know. The lesson has been learned teacher, and the moral of the story is that, I was once a silly little girl, but a silly girl no more.

running into Virginia.

ran into Virginia today at Ellwood's Coffee. I couldn't help but want to just pick up my things and move to NYC.

But I don't want to leave my sweet Virginia.... state?
